Matt Wakefield

Matt Wakefield is the Director of Information, Communication and Cyber Security at EPRI, where he leads initiatives to modernize the electric grid by integrating advanced telecommunications, information systems, and cybersecurity technologies. With a strong emphasis on communication standards, integration architectures, and secure data exchange, Matt’s work supports the development of resilient, intelligent grid infrastructure. He also oversees a cross-sector initiative focused on digital tools, enhancing operational efficiency and safety including leading the NextWave AMI Initiative. With a career that began as a Nuclear Reactor Operator in the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Fleet and progressed through leadership roles in the utility sector, Matt brings over three decades of experience in electronic systems, grid modernization, and applied technology. He holds a B.S. in Technology Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
