Climate Week 2023: Making Progress Toward a Sustainable Future

September 14, 2023

At Climate Week 2023, innovators, policy makers and thought leaders are converging in New York from Sept. 17-24 to address one of the most urgent challenges facing utilities and communities around the globe: climate disruption. Hosted by Climate Group, Climate Week stands as the largest yearly gathering of its kind with around 400 events throughout New York City.

This year, Itron is thrilled to attend and present alongside long-time Itron partner, Capgemini. On Monday, Sept. 18, I’m representing Itron in a panel discussion moderated by Nisar Ahamad, Capgemini, titled, “Accelerating the ESG Transition: Unleashing the Power of Granular Data and Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future.” In this discussion, attendees can expect insights into the challenges facing the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting industry and how utilities can play an innovative role to promote a sustainable future. Featuring various perspectives from leaders in the energy and technology space including Ira Greg Pearl, NextEra Energy, Isabel Verkes, ESG Book, and Soumya Bhatt, Microsoft, the panel will focus on the major obstacles organizations face when effectively collecting and disclosing their environmental data, as well as how granular data offers a revolutionary approach to accelerating the energy transition.

I look forward to representing Itron in this discussion and diving into the importance of smart meter and sensor data and how improved access can significantly contribute to improved environmental reporting. In addition, I’ll cover how the use of aggregated utility data and analytics can help create value for many stakeholders in the ESG investing industry, and how these benefits can be strategically positioned to encourage utilities and their respective customers to participate. The discussion will also include perspectives from each panelist on the role of collaboration among technology providers, utilities and ESG stakeholders in creating a more resourceful world through accurate, data-driven reporting.
