Forecasting Gas Loads for Retail Markets

CenterPoint Energy (formerly Vectren) has been utilizing Itron’s MetrixIDR to forecast system-wide natural gas loads in Indiana and retail supplier loads in Ohio for over 15 years. The system’s flexible and extensible framework allows CenterPoint Energy to manage the daily forecasting process in support of its regional Gas Control operations. 

Learn about our recent project, during which we upgraded to the latest Itron technology, we migrated from an on-premise Windows server to an Azure cloud environment, and we transitioned from an Oracle database to a SQL database. We will review the challenges we faced throughout the process and how we overcame the obstacles. We will also provide an overview of Ohio’s natural gas choice program and how MetrixIDR’s robust portfolio functionality enables us to meet the program’s unique issues.
