Deploying an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network is no small feat—it demands time, strategic planning, resources, and a significant financial investment. While many utilities recognize the transformative benefits of AMI, the cost can be a major hurdle. This session will spotlight the early stages of an innovative partnership between Wilmington Water Utility and Pepco Holdings Inc. (PHI), highlighting how collaboration can unlock new possibilities. By leveraging PHI's existing AMI electric and streetlight networks, Wilmington Water Utility, a municipal utility in Delaware, can benefit from a network canopy to support reading 35K customers, without building a network from scratch. You will learn how the partnership began, the technical and commercial considerations, and the approach they will take to successfully manage and read electric and water meters with one network.
