How Will You Practice Resourcefulness on April 22?
Here at Itron, we have a saying—the way we manage energy and water will define this century. Through our technology and innovation, we are working to create more insightful utilities, smarter cities and a more resourceful world. This concept of resourcefulness, and using our resources more wisely, is something we have built our products and solutions around. Products and solutions that help cities and consumers conserve water, monitor their energy usage, use gas safely and efficiently, and overall, be smarter about how we utilize our natural resources.
On April 22, more than 1 billion people in 192 countries will come together to celebrate Earth Day. This global event—a day dedicated to volunteering, giving back and supporting our planet—is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world.
This year, Earth Day will focus on mobilizing the world to end plastic pollution, including creating support for a global effort to eliminate single-use plastics along with the global regulation for the disposal of plastics. This is the perfect opportunity to practice resourcefulness in your day-to-day activities. Consider getting a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water. Make the switch from plastic food containers to glass. Take the time to recycle plastic eating utensils. There are plenty of ways to be more conscious of how you’re utilizing plastics in your life—giving the planet a well-needed break and being more resourceful at the same time.
For Itron, Earth Day is an important day to reflect on the impact we’re making as a company—at a local level and on a global scale. We’ve challenged our employees across the globe to get involved in their local communities, from assisting in river and trail clean ups to planting trees at a local park.
While the concept of resourcefulness comes in many forms, it really boils down to one thing: The ability to find clever ways to overcome difficulties or find solutions to problems. We need to find creative ways to better support our planet and minimize our impact on the environment.
