Jamaica Public Service Company Selects Silver Spring Networks for Smart Grid Program
Multi-Application IPv6 Platform to Help Drive Grid Reliability, Improve Customer Service and Revenue Realization
Kingston, Jamaica and Redwood City, CA – May 9, 2016 – Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) today announced that it has been selected by Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), an integrated electric utility company and the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica serving over 600,000 residential and C&I customers, for its smart grid program. In line with Jamaica’s National Energy Policy 2009 – 2030, which emphasizes energy conservation and efficiency goals, JPS will deploy Silver Spring’s open standards-based platform and SilverLink Software-as-a-Service to help ensure better grid reliability, improve operational efficiency and drive revenue realization. The project is also expected to empower JPS customers to manage their energy costs more effectively through a web portal with more timely and granular insights into their energy use. The initial phase of the project is expected to begin this summer, targeting 21,000 homes and businesses in seven parishes across the island.
JPS will also be able to leverage Silver Spring’s multi-application platform to deliver future applications such as smart street lights, expand Pre-Pay options, TOU billing, distribution automation and other smart city and home functionalities across Jamaica, helping to further improve reliability.
“We are thrilled to partner with an industry leader like Silver Spring Networks to deliver Jamaica’s smart grid program,” said Kelly Tomblin, President and CEO, JPS. “Silver Spring’s multi-application platform and solutions will help JPS realize its goal of delivering customer satisfaction at the highest level by providing a tool that will facilitate the best possible efficiency, reliability, and benefits for our customers now and in the future.”
“It is an honor to partner with JPS to overcome the industry-wide challenge of energy loss and to help provide better quality of service for its customers across Jamaica,” said Eric Dresselhuys, EVP of Global Development, Silver Spring Networks. “The breadth of Silver Spring’s offerings, combined with the speed of deployment, is cutting-edge compared with other technologies. By selecting an open, standards-based platform, we can help ensure that Jamaica’s interests will be protected for years to come.”
