Itron Showcases Proven Networks at UTC Telecom & Technology 2018

June 06, 2018

Electric, gas and water have long been considered essential services provided by utilities and cities around the world. But now, as utilities are deploying the network foundations to build out diverse ecosystems of IoT-connected devices, sensors applications and more, the industry is evolving. In today’s world, connectivity is the new essential commodity, and utilities are positioned at the center of this transformation.

Itron recently participated in UTC Telecom & Technology in Palm Springs, California. This multi-day training and networking event connected close to 1,400 utility leaders from across North America as they learned the latest in technology advancements, discussed key energy policy initiatives and strengthened relationships within the utility community.

Itron featured live demos for smart networks, smart grid and smart cities, including applications such as high impendence and theft detection, dynamic network management, analytics and more. Itron was also featured in UTC’s Smart Systems for Smarter Communities Exhibit. This special presentation series featured UTC-member utility leaders as they shared perspectives on six key elements of a smart community. Itron was highlighted in the Beyond the Meter, Grid and Telecommunications perspectives.

James Papp, senior principal consultant at Itron, presented Edge Intelligence: Leveraging Multi-Purpose Networks for DERs,a discussion of how a new generation of smart metering networks and edge computing is redefining what’s possible for grid operations. This presentation also featured a case study on how Itron is helping San Diego Gas & Electric combat California’s infamous DER duck curve through distributed analytics and forecasting.
