Itron Helps Improve Water Efficiency in Middle East
Federal Electricity & Water Authority uses Itron technology to reduce water losses
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — April 4, 2017 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA), water and electricity provider to the Northern Emirates in the United Arab Emirates, has upgraded its water metering system. FEWA has installed nearly 90,000 state-of-the-art, smart ultrasonic water meters from Itron to improve water efficiency and reduce water losses.
Itron’s static metering technology is designed to adapt to the harsh environment and intermittent water supply in the Middle East, accurately measuring consumption even when air or debris is in the pipe. The highly accurate meters enable FEWA and its customers to better account for water usage and limit waste. With no moving parts, Itron’s meters allow for protection against unplanned maintenance costs. The devices also help improve customer service through more accurate customer billing.
“With water supply that isn’t constant, resulting in air in pipes, FEWA needs a solution that allows us to accurately measure and manage the delivery of water. We have been very pleased with the performance of Itron’s static metering technology, which helps us reduce apparent water losses,” said Arif Ahmad Berhama, director asset management for water at FEWA. “Itron has been a trusted partner to FEWA and we are glad to benefit from Itron’s technology and expertise.”
“Itron’s static metering technology is well suited to address the needs of FEWA as it faces challenges with resource availability and high temperatures and harsh conditions in the Middle East. It is Itron’s mission to help our customers deliver and use resources more effectively, so we are pleased to help FEWA reduce non-revenue water. With greater awareness of water usage, FEWA and its customers are able to decrease waste,” said Mathias Martin, Itron vice president of non-revenue water solutions.
