Itron Announces Sponsorship of Conservation Demonstration Project

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.—Feb. 24, 2011—Itron Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) announced today that it has made a three-year commitment to the Frontier Project, a water and energy conservation demonstration project in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., as the project's Technology Sponsor.

The Frontier Project, a 14,000-square-foot LEED® Platinum demonstration building, is dedicated to educating resident consumers, commercial builders and sustainable advocates on the latest methods and technologies in water, energy and site conservation. From the passive cooling system, comprised of a cool tower and two solar chimneys, to alternative roofing options that reduce the heat gain of the building, the Frontier Project demonstrates that everyone can help preserve the environment and be good stewards of our natural resources.

Later this year, the Frontier Project will feature a variety of Itron product demonstrations, showcasing innovations in metering technology and how residents, business owners and municipalities can interact with emerging technologies. While the Frontier Project provides ideas for behavioral changes to promote environmental sustainability, Itron provides the tools that cities, municipalities and private utility companies can use to maximize efficiency, streamline operations, and engage consumers.

Itron will establish a resource center at the Frontier Project which will demonstrate a variety of systems consumers will soon have at their disposal for monitoring their water, electricity, and natural gas consumption. This technology provides consumers more control over their resource consumption, thereby helping them save money and reducing their impact on the environment.
