Dean Meyer is an experienced leader in advanced metering, smart city infrastructure and applied technology, currently serving as AMI Manager at Augusta Utilities. In this role, he leads large-scale modernization initiatives to enhance water system performance, data visibility and customer service through the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). He is responsible for end-to-end program delivery, including vendor selection, procurement, system integration and implementation strategies that align technology investments with operational and community outcomes. <br /><br />Meyer is driving a multi-year AMI transformation effort involving the replacement of tens of thousands of water meters, integrating modern data platforms with legacy systems to ensure accurate, timely delivery of actionable insights across utility stakeholders. His work focuses on optimizing water usage, improving billing accuracy and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.<br /><br />In parallel with his operational leadership, Meyer serves as a research affiliate with Augusta University, where he contributes to the development of low-cost environmental sensors. His work bridges experimental physics and applied electronics, supporting the design and deployment of LoRa and cellular-enabled sensor networks that enhance water quality monitoring, operational efficiency and overall system resilience.<br /><br />Meyer brings a diverse technical and leadership background shaped by prior service in national security and the U.S. Army, where he spent over two decades in roles spanning technical leadership, analysis and instruction. This experience underpins his disciplined approach to complex program execution, systems integration and team leadership in high-stakes environments. <br /><br />Known for his practical, outcomes-focused mindset, Meyer is passionate about aligning innovative technologies with real-world infrastructure challenges. His work supports the evolution of smarter, more sustainable communities by leveraging connected systems, sensor data and modern communications technologies to improve how utilities operate and serve their customers.
