Engineering Manager - Water Infrastructure Technology Team

Craig Hannah is an accomplished leader in the water industry, serving as the Engineering Manager for the Water Infrastructure Technology Team at Johnson Controls. In this role, he leads the development and deployment of innovative solutions that help utilities modernize operations, improve efficiency and strengthen customer service through advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and related technologies.<br /><br />With more than two decades of experience at Johnson Controls, Hannah has played a key role in delivering complex municipal utility projects, including the design and implementation of AMR and AMI systems that reduce water loss, increase billing accuracy and enable data-driven decision-making. His work focuses on helping utilities address critical challenges such as aging infrastructure, resource conservation and operational performance. <br /><br />Craig is widely recognized as a subject matter expert in smart water technologies, having contributed to numerous manuals and standards. He chairs the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Water Meters and Flowmeters Committee, and he is a past Chair of the AWWA Customer Metering Practices Committee. Craig has co-authored and edited many editions of AWWA manuals, including the M6, M22 and M36, which guide best practices in water metering and utility operations. <br /><br />His contributions to the water industry have been formally acknowledged with the prestigious AWWA George Anderson Award, recognizing outstanding, long-term contributions to the field of water metering. <br /><br />Craig earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts from Texas Tech University, combining technical expertise with a broad understanding of historical and organizational context.<br /><br />Known for his practical, results-oriented approach, Hannah is passionate about advancing intelligent water systems that deliver measurable value for utilities and communities. His leadership continues to support the transition toward smarter, more sustainable infrastructure through the integration of connected technologies, analytics and modern communications platforms.
